Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find out what my ring size is?

The most reliable way to find out your ring size is to be measured by a jeweller. If this is not possible, please purchase one of the ring sizers on this website. It is best to measure the finger you wish to wear the ring on at different times during the day, but especially later in the day as our fingers can swell. Please make sure you can remove the ring sizer and it passes over the knuckle. Due to the way our rings are made and the beautiful texture adorning them, rings cannot be re-sized, and if the incorrect size is ordered, it takes a further 6-8 weeks to make another ring. Therefore, it is important to find out the correct ring size before ordering.

What if the ring I ordered is not the correct size?

Please let us know if you need to return or exchange an item of jewellery within 14 days. Because of the texture of each ring, they cannot be re-sized and will need to be returned unworn and exchanged for the correct size. If rings are made-to-order, I will need to re-make the ring which will take up to 6-8 weeks.

How long will the jewellery I order take to make?

Ready-to-wear items will be sent within 3 working days. If you would like to order a made-to-order piece, once your order has been placed and paid for in full, I will begin making your jewellery. It will be hand-carved by me, cast, and then hallmarked depending on the weight of the piece. Please allow up to 6-8 weeks for this process.

How is your jewellery made?

Each piece of jewellery is hand-carved from jeweller’s wax and cast in recycled solid gold or silver. Lost-wax casting is an ancient jewellery-making technique which dates back six thousand years. I am passionate about this technique because each piece is unique and has an organic and delicate texture which would be difficult to create using metalsmithing techniques.

How can I return an item?

Please contact us at hello@bettyandbird.co.uk within 14 days to arrange to return an item of jewellery to us. Earrings cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, unless faulty. Jewellery must be returned in an unworn condition, in the original packaging and via a fully insured postal or courier service at the customer's cost within 28 days. Once the piece of jewellery has been returned we can process a refund.

Care Guide

  • Keep your jewellery clean by gently washing it in warm soapy water and drying carefully with a soft cloth before storage if not wearing it for a while. Acid-free paper or an airtight container is ideal. Store jewellery separately to avoid scratches and tangled chains.

  • Silver jewellery can tarnish as it reacts with naturally occurring chemicals in the air and on our skin. Hairspray, hand lotion and perfume are examples of products which can speed up the tarnishing process. It is best to put your jewellery on after you have applied these products and they have dried.

  • We recommend that you do not wear your jewellery during any activity which could damage your jewellery e.g., exercising at the gym or using household cleaning chemicals such as bleach.

  • Do not wear your jewellery in the bath, shower, swimming pool or sea.

  • Avoid wearing jewellery when you are sleeping.
